Silent Dinner

Tonight was a really good night! I am in the ASL club and we had our first silent dinner of the semester. We met at Dos Amigos mexican restaurant. There was a total of eleven people that ate. Out of the eleven people we had two deaf guest and a student who has a cochlear implant. It was an amazing experience getting to silently eat dinner with them and only communicate in ASL. Sometimes when we have the dinners we don't have any deaf guest so it is very tempting to talk. The two deaf individuals had a great time and want to get involved with our club. Hopefully those of you who are in the ASL club will get to meet them. One was a lady named Laura Herman and she was an ASL teacher  for thirty years at four different universities and now she is working for the Department of Health and Human Services in Morganton. The other deaf person was a guy named Gregory. He was born and raised her in Boone. I really loved talking with them but was extremely nervous because it has been a semester without ASL and I was having to ask them to sign slow so I could keep up!
